Mozzarella Sticks
These baked mozzarella sticks are the perfect snack – for adults and kids. Plus, baking them makes them much lighter and healthier than fried ones.
INGREDIENTS
- 12 oz. mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut in halves or thirds), room temperature
- Approximately 1/2 cup flour
- Approximately 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs or Panko breadcrumbs (for a Panko crusted recipe, check out this recipe on Linny’s Kitchen)
- 3/4 cups powdered Parmesan cheese
- 3 or 4 eggs, beaten
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil
- Robust Red Sauce, for dipping
HOW TO MAKE IT
- Arrange a breading station with a container of flour (seasoned with salt and pepper), one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs
- Dredge your cheese stick in the flour (shake off any excess), dip it in the egg and then coat with bread crumbs
- Bring your breaded stick back into the egg and then dip it in the breadcrumbs again – this double dip will help the melted cheese stay inside the breadcrumb shell
- Place the breaded cheese stick onto a baking sheet coated with olive oil
- Repeat this process with all of the cheese sticks
- Generously brush the tops of the mozzarella sticks with olive oil
- Freeze the cheese sticks for at least 30 minutes before baking – this will help them keep their shape while baking
- Bake at 400°F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown
